Luke 7:14-16 And He came up and touched the coffin; and the bearers came to a halt. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise!” The dead man sat up and began to speak. And Jesus gave him back to his mother. Fear gripped them all, and they began glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has visited His people!”

Death causes a lot of pain. There is nothing more heartbreaking than to see a mom weeping over her dead child. That is what Jesus saw that day in Nain. A woman who had lost her husband had now lost her son. This was more pain than she could bare, that is when Jesus stepped into her life.
Physical death is a picture of the spiritual death that troubles mankind. This same kind of pain tortures the soul of a parent whose child leaves the Lord to follow a path of reckless living. Sometimes, there seems to be no consolation.
Take a moment with me today as the funeral procession in Nain stops to meet Christ. Walk up to the casket, pull the shroud from the young man’s body, look into his cold, pale face. Notice the hopelessness in his hollow eyes. The young life that was alive with activity, now dead and lifeless, lying in this casket. A young man once, so full of energy, now cold and empty, the hopes of a happy life all gone. What you see is the picture of a young man lost in his sins and foolish life choices. A life so full of dreams and expectancy stolen by the pleasures of this world. The same emptiness experienced in physical death, is recognizable in the lives of the prodigal sons. Now listen, can you hear the voice of Jesus? He has stopped the procession and has begun to speak, “Young man, I say to you, arise!” That’s when it happened, suddenly the boy sat up. His face was filled with life. His eyes were sparkling with the joy of a brand new life. There was a distinct difference, an unmistakeable difference. This boy was not dead, he was alive. Resurrection power had flooded his whole being. He was not only alive, he was really alive, alive with the life of God.
This story is about more than the healing of one boy in Nain two thousand years ago. This story is about a generation of dead boys and girls, young men and women who have lost their way and are trapped in the death of this world. This story is about Jesus and His Resurrection power. When Jesus touched that casket and spoke to that young man, Resurrection life surged through his body. In the same way today, the Lord is approaching the dead corpses of an entire generation. He is moved with compassion, and is calling them back to life by name. As each one responds to His voice, that same power that raised Jesus from the dead begins to stir in the depths of their souls. Those hard, lifeless faces begin to be filled with the joy of His life . Their cold, empty hearts begin to beat with the passionate fire of God’s love. Their hands become conduits of His mighty touch. Before you know it, funeral processions are being interrupted everywhere. These Resurrected sons and daughters are now filled with Resurrection life, everywhere they go, others are raised from the dead as well. The Lord said it would happen, the sons and daughters would volunteer in the day of His power. Maybe, just maybe this is what we have all longed for all our lives.

  1. Just such a funeral procession started in 1978. It wandered around aimlessly, with the boy’s mother praying, calling out to God to step in and do something. Her boy was dead, heading for the grave site and no matter what anyone did nothing seemed to help. On January 24, 2007, at 7:15 pm He interrupted the funeral procession. He reached down out of heaven touched that dead boy, awakening him with the same power that the Father brought Him from the grave and baptized him with that same Holy Spirit He received the day He was baptized.
What happened next was nothing short of a miracle. New life was where death once was, radical change! Everyone noticed – EVERYONE! People explained it, as they do. Some saw it as the hand of God; others explained it away as ‘whatever’.
I tell you what I know – I was trapped in that dead body. I heard my Father calling to me to come home. I responded by calling out to Jesus to forgive me. With compassion and power immeasurable he reached down and POW.
Here I am swallowed up in Him, telling others what He did for me – I’M ALIVE!!!!!!! Call me whatever you want – I don’t care because I know the truth!
Oh yeah – Momma was hoping for a miracle – but she never bargained for this! PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!

    1. ERROR – On January 24, 2010, at 7:15 pm not January 24, 2007 at 7:15 pmPM. Hard to see with joy flowing out my eyeballs!
