Col.3:1-3 – If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
This is the true proof of Christianity. It may not seem spectacular or glamorous, it is the day to day authenticity of walking with Christ. We once lived trapped in the miserable and mundane of day to day human activity. Bored rather than motivated we were in a survival mentality. If I can only make it to the weekend everything will be just okay was the way most all of us lived. That all change unexpectedly when Christ came into our lives. He gave us a reason to live, the power to live this new life, and boredom simply became a thing of the past. Paul said we had been crucified, resurrected and now glorified with Christ. If that is true, set your heart on things above, not on the things of this earth, because you are dead and your new life is hid with Christ in God. Here is how H. W. Beecher describes this passage.
“Heaven answers with us the same purpose that the tuning-fork does with the musician. Our affections, the whole orchestra of them, are apt to get below the concert pitch; and we take heaven to tune our hearts by. In this way, instead of making the heavenly state a romance-ground, we are every day framing it by the imagination, and ascribing to it all of our nobler and finer ideals, and taking this state and bringing it down to measure our daily life by. And so, instead of taking us from the daily duties of life, it brings us back to them with renewed strength, with better moral discriminations, with more patience, more gentleness, and more hope.”
I love this example, our hearts are one part of Christ’s heavenly orchestra. We hear this new sound and begin to bring our lives in tune with this heavenly music. This is the beauty and the power of the church. How beautiful it is to flow in one accord with His people. This is how we will change our world, living the same old life in a whole new way. We have been totally changed.
