Heb.2:7 – YOU HAVE MADE HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN ANGELS; YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR;
YOU HAVE PUT EVERYTHING IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET.
In the beginning, man was created in the image of God and was intended to rule this earth. The Lord placed us over all of the creatures on this planet, ruling in His name. No animals, demons, or angels had a higher rank than us, we were literally only under the Lord in authority. All of that changed with the fall of man, we lost our right and ability to rule and fell under the dominion of the illegal prince of this world, the fallen one called Lucifer. Christ conquered the devil through His death and resurrection and restored man to his place of authority. Today the war rages, we are sent to enforce the authority of God’s kingdom as we come to the end of the age. Here is how Spurgeon describes today’s verse.
“Thou made him a little lower than the angels—a little lower in nature, since they are immortal, and but a little, because time is short; and when that is over, saints are no longer lower than the angels. The margin reads it, “A little while inferior to.” Thou crowned him. The dominion that God has bestowed on man is a great glory and honor to him; for all dominion is honor, and the highest is that which wears the crown. A full list is given of the subjugated creatures, to show that all the dominion lost by sin is restored in Christ Jesus. Let none of us permit the possession of any earthly creature to be a snare to us, but let us remember that we are to reign over them, and not to allow them to reign over us. Under our feet we must keep the world, and we must shun that base spirit which is content to let worldly cares and pleasures sway the empire of the immortal soul.”
Today we have been restored and have been made sons and daughters of God. Who we are is not obvious to the casual observer; when Christ appears again who we are will be clearly seen. In the meantime we are called to preach the gospel to whoever will listen. Those who believe will be translated into this new kingdom, those who don’t will be lost forever. The stakes are high, our victory is certain. We are no longer lower than the angels, we are sons and daughters of God.

Great news
I’m asking for clarification .
We were initially given the right and the ability (or in other words the authority and power) to rule in this realm, which we subsequently lost to the demonic.
And if I understand the quote from Spurgeon we are inferior to the angels only in terms of terms of immortality and at the end of time that limitation no longer exists and we are then not lower than the angels…?
So Christ, in this age has restored our authority and power (or ability and right) to reign in this realm because of grace received through faith in Christ. And at the end of Time, because Time is eliminated, we will have have immortality.
So is there a distinction being made between us and other heavenly beings? From this phrasing it sounds like Differentiation is being eliminated
The problem is what as known as “the here but not yet”. Sin brought us into this fallen state and redemption brought us out. The conflict is between the legal and the experiential. We are saved – being saved – and will be saved. When Christ returns only then will we be like Him because we will see Him as He is.
