GOD’S GREAT PLAN

Rom.8:28 – And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

I am trying to be more and more aware of the Lord and His involvement in everything in my world. I try to focus on the sunset and the sunrise, the changing tides of the ocean and the fluctuation of the waves. I am trying to observe His creatures all around me from the herons to the grasshoppers and the ospreys to the hungry alligators. And then I try to observe history and the changes that seem to be so slow and subtle but cause enormous change in time. All of these things are designed to show forth the glory of God. Here is something Jonathan Edwards says about that.

“As we see in the work of creation, the whole creation is but one world. Though the parts are very various and innumerable, and distant one from another, yet all bear a relation one to another and all is united together so as to make one frame and to be all together, one building. So it is in the works of providence: all are the various parts of one scheme, different motions all conspiring together to help one another to bring forth some one great event. As ’tis with the different motions of the various parts of a clock, all conspire together to turn one hand and to move one hammer. This might be argued from hence that God has made but one kind of creature in this lower world to be the head of the lower creation, of one blood. All seem to serve him; all made for an habitation for him. The sun seems to shine and run his race for him, and though there be another world besides this visible world, [and] other intelligent creatures there, viz. the world of angels, yet the Scripture teaches that even that distant and invisible world has a relation to this and is made for man.…”

Everything is connected together and is involved in God’s master plan. What is that master plan? It is to show the glory of God in all things and especially in the redemption of the fallen human race. All of the changes that are happening in the world are a giant set up to prepare man’s heart to call upon the Lord and to advance the opportunity for the gospel to be proclaimed. From the break down of our moral society, to the violence in the cities, to the nations trying to overwhelm and conquer other nations it is all part of God’s master plan. His kingdom will replace the kingdoms of this world, it is only a matter of time, His time.
