JUBILEE HAS COME

Lk.4:18 – The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Until you are truly born again the oppression Jesus is talking about here doesn’t make sense. All of mankind is born in a state of oppression not able to understand the source of all the misery that they endure all throughout their lives. As we trudge through life experiencing a series of miseries the oppression tends to set in on our emotional condition. This is the place the gospel can mightily effect us. The power of the gospel comes from the message of the cross, in that message our sins are forgiven and our soul (mind, will, and emotions) are mightily effected. We are washed in His living water and are set free from the oppression of sin. Here is how Johannes Brenz describes this passage.

“This “spiritual” Jubilee began first when Christ started preaching the gospel and continued not for a year only but forever. For the Lord says, “He has sent me to preach;” that is to say, that I should sound forth with the trumpet of the gospel the acceptable year of the Lord. For if we take a good look at ourselves, we shall find that we were made servants and captives of Satan through sin, and that by eating the forbidden fruit we “sold” and lost the possession of Paradise and the inheritance of all heavenly blessings. But now Christ is come and has made satisfaction for our sins. He has redeemed us from the power of Satan and has restored to us our former possession of Paradise and to the inheritance of heavenly graces. All these things he openly proclaims by the preaching of his gospel.”

We are at the end of God’s season of Jubilee,the return of Christ draws near. He is accelerating His work of liberation as the final day of this age approaches. Jesus was announcing the beginning of His great ministry at that synagogue in Nazareth. For the next three years everything He said in that service happened thousands of times. The disciples became the trumpets of Jubilee after Jesus ascended into heaven. Now its our turn. Put the trumpet to your lips and declare the days of oppression are gone, JUBILEE HAS COME!!!

  1. You will be firmly established in righteousness:
    You will be far from [even the thought of] oppression, for you will not fear,
    And from terror, for it will not come near you.

    ALL HIS PROMISES ARE YES AND AMEN!
