Matthew 1:18 – Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
The greatest of days is this first Christmas Day. A virgin brought forth a Son, conceived in her womb by the Holy Spirit. Her child was to be the Savior of the world, the sin offering for man. This offering had to be spotless, one born without sin yet still a human without a sinful nature. This was the only possibility, He would be a man because He was born of a human mother, He would be sinless because He was conceived by the Holy Spirit. The only way to understand this miracle is by faith. The new nature we receive when our sins are forgiven and Jesus comes to live in our heart grasps and even begins to understand this miracle. Jesus was born to die, He intentionally represents me as a man and took my sins upon Himself, the only man who could qualify to be an offering for my sin. Here is how Spurgeon sees the virgin birth of Christ.
“A word or two sufficed to describe the birth of all the kings whose names we have read (in Christ’s lineage); but for our Lord Jesus Christ there is much more to be said. The evangelist girds himself up for his solemn duty, and writes: — “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise. ” It is a deep, mysterious, and delicate subject, fitter for reverent faith than for speculative curiosity. The Holy Ghost wrought in the chosen virgin the body of our Lord. There was no other way of his being born; for had he been of a sinful father, how should he have possessed a sinless nature? He is born of a woman, that he might be human; but not by man, that he might not be sinful. See how the Holy Ghost co-operates in the work of our redemption by preparing the body of our Lord!”
So now this is Christmas 2023. Over two thousand years have passed since His birth, He is still changing lives all these years later. So what have you done with Jesus? Have you opened your heart to His great love ? Today just may be the day you believe on the Lord and are born again. Open your heart and call upon His name. He becomes real to those who are real with Him. Receive Christ and His love into your whole being; this may prove to be your best Christmas yet.
