Ps.48:9 – NLT – O God, we meditate on your unfailing love
as we worship in your Temple.
Ps.48:9 – AMP – We have thought of Your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of Your temple.
His love never fails. Take a moment, be still, and think about the power of that statement, His love never fails. David understood this and lived off of this all the days of his life. It was God’s love that won him over, His love that sustained and strengthened him in the days of trouble, and it was this unfailing love that put that insatiable desire for God’s house in his heart. Regretfully many times we will turn away from God’s house when dark days engulf us. David found that it was in God’s house that he could discover God’s love at its fullness. For us today God’s house is not the building but the gathering of God’s people. That can be in a home, a tent, or a fine cathedral; wherever God’s people gather together that is His house and that is where we will find His unfailing love. “Let our minds be filled with good thoughts of God from this. “From what we have heard and seen and what we hope for, let us think very much about God’s unfailing love whenever we meet in the midst of his temple”. All the streams of mercy that flow to us must be traced back to the fountain of God’s unfailing love. We are spared not because of any goodness in ourselves, but purely because of his mercy and the special favor he shows his people. We must therefore consider this with delight and think about it frequently and with perseverance. What subject can we dwell on that is more noble, pleasant, or beneficial? We must have God’s unfailing love always before us, especially when we worship him in his temple. When we enjoy the undisturbed benefits of public worship, when we meet in his temple and there is no one to make us afraid, we should think of his unfailing love.”
All of us have had our dark moments in life, some of those can be quite devastating. The only way we can recover and find our way again is when we drink deeply from the cup of God’s steadfast love. When we gather together with our brothers and sisters in Christ and worship His beautiful Name we discover again the depths and the power of His unfailing love.
