AGES TO COME

Eph.2:7 – so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Eph.2:7 – TPT – Throughout the coming ages we will be the visible display of the infinite, limitless riches of his grace and kindness, which was showered upon us in Jesus Christ.

This passage contains one of the great mysteries of God describing His mysterious eternal purpose. His ultimate plan is to display His glory, especially the glory of God seen in redemption. This passage takes us beyond the here and now and touches on eternity. The Lord has plans for you not only in this age but in the ages to come. Here is an explanation of this passage from the EXPOSITOR’S COMMENTARY.

“All this was done by God in Christ with a single end in view: to demonstrate in successive ages “the incomparable riches of his grace”. This was God’s publicity program for the whole of history–and beyond. He planned a continuing exhibition of his favor toward humankind to cover all the centuries between the ascension and the return of Christ, and after that through all eternity (cf. Jude 25). This dimension implies that it will be for the benefit of angels as well as human beings. “Kindness” is love in tender action, which God showed to humans when it was most needed.”

So let me help you connect the dots here, the Lord has had a plan in place before creation and before the beginning of time. He saw us in eternity, loved us, knew we would fall before He created us, and instituted a plan of redemption that would have eternal implications. He became one of us in the person of Jesus Christ to represent us and die for us on the cross. His blood washes our sins away and as a result He has sent the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us. The result is that we are now part of a race of transformed beings, our testimony is first intended to effect the people of our generation. Now this is where the mystery becomes even more exciting, its the part of our story including eternity. Somehow and somewhere in eternity our story will effect beings in the whole universe. I am not quite sure what that means, we will have to witness and see what that will look like in the ages to come.

  1. Placing the true value of what’s ahead can be like holding wet soap, it invariably slips away, then you just pick it up and put it back on a shelf. Who is able to say there is not more of the Lord available to me? With Him being the same yesterday, today and forever, that must mean more available has no end. “Seek and you shall find” what a promise, add to that “In the last day’s I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh” A purposeful deluge full of His glory. Thankfully this is no bar of soap to hold in a hand, it’s Jesus returning with His promise that He has made us ready. What does ready us look like? It’s what’s ahead.
