BRUTE BEASTS

BRUTE BEASTS, TURKISH DELIGHT AND TOO MUCH HONEY!
MERRY THURSDAY!

Prov. 25:16 “Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.”

“Edmund was already feeling uncomfortable from having eaten too many sweets, and when he heard that the Lady he had made friends with was a dangerous witch he felt even more uncomfortable. But he still wanted to taste that Turkish Delight more than he wanted anything else.” CS LEWIS

“BUT WHERE IS THE BISCUITS AND SAUSAGE GRAVY?” God has given us so much to enjoy! But we all know if we enjoy any of these creature comforts too much we become just like the unbeliever–carnal. Frank and I recently were at a Christian event sponsored at a Hotel that serves the free breakfast buffet. (Where on earth am I going with this?) One of the Pastor’s attending this all expense paid event came up to Frank complaining that other hotel buffets serve sausage gravy and biscuits. Sometimes we just need to hear ourselves. Seeing I’m on a roll let me quote from Jonathan Edwards:
“Christ teaches us to use temporal comforts like men and not like brutes, like reasonable creatures and not as if we had nothing else but sense and no understanding. Religion allows of the enjoyment of sensitive delights temperately, moderately and with reason, but the wicked man gluts himself with them. Any of the delights of this world are abundantly sweeter when taken temperately than when taken immoderately, as he that at a feast feeds with temperance has much greater pleasure of what he eats and drinks than he that gluts himself and vomits it up again. The righteous man has the prudence to eat no more honey than he can digest, and that the relish of it may remain.”
Believe me I put myself right in there learning the life of moderation. Looking back I can definitely see how the “PIG PIG” arises in me ( Author David Mcphail). Another great picture is JOBBA THE HUTT-“You may have been a good smuggler, but now you’re Bantha fodder.”(Star Wars) He is so grotesque as he sits there barely able to move.
But to the Christian a whole new world opens up around us. We have tasted something so heavenly that no earthly thing can even come close but only serves to accentuate the presence of Christ even more.
And then there is poor poor Edmund in the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis. We read: “At last the Turkish Delight was all finished and Edmund was looking very hard at the empty box and wishing that she would ask him whether he would like some more. Probably the Queen knew quite well what he was thinking; for she knew, though Edmund did not, that this was enchanted Turkish Delight and that anyone who had once tasted it would want more and more of it, and would even, if they were allowed, go on eating it till they killed themselves.”
I pray you have drunken of Christ so deep nothing can ever unsweeten what you have tasted. He can bring you through the worst of times and the best- just open WIDE YOUR MOUTH AND HE WILL CERTAINLY FILL IT.
