CAN GOD PROVIDE A TABLE IN THE WILDERNESS?
Psa. 78:19 Yes, they spoke against God:
They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
Humans are so predictable. These people in today’s verse were the very people who had walked through the Red Sea on dry ground. The Lord had been leading them with the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. He had supplied water from the rock and even daily bread from heaven. They seemed to think that the manna was not sufficient to nourish them in their journey, they wanted some meat. They were not only doubting God’s ability to supply for them, they were also doubting His very nature. They were doubting the very goodness of God. Now you may think you would never do that if you were in their position but odds are, you probably would have responded the same way. Except for the influence of the grace of God, we all would respond the wrong way. Gill has some interesting insight into this passage, check out his thoughts.
“Not only thought ill of him, and tempted him in their hearts, but they expressed with their mouths what was in their hearts, and spoke against him, his power, and his providence, in plain words, though he had been so good and gracious to them, and had done such wonderful things for them: they said, can God furnish a table in the wilderness? these are the words which they spoke against him, and by which they tempted him, questioning his power and his goodness, and expressing their dissatisfaction with their present and daily allowance; they were not content with the manna they had every day, but they wanted to have a table ordered and spread with all kind of dainties. The sense of the question is, can the Lord do this for us? give us a plentiful table in the wilderness, as well as drop the manna about our tents? if he can, why does not he? if he does not, it must be either for want in himself, or want of good will to us; and thus tried and tempted The Lord.”
This is a terrifying thought, to be eating and living out of God’s hand everyday and complaining about it. How many times has God met you and supplied your needs throughout your life? He is not only sustaining and supplying for you as a Christian, all of those years that you were living in sin, away from God, even in those times He graciously took care of us, fed us, protected us, and supplied all our needs for us.
The great cure for this hardness of heart is to give thanks unto The Lord. Rehearse in your heart all He has done for you and enter His presence with thanksgiving, worship Him and bow down before Him. Recognize that He is not only able to supply, but He is good and delights in pouring His goodness and provision upon His sons and daughters.

Isn’t that the truth, WOW. As I look back at my life now and actually see, hear and taste all of the accidents and crazy stuff I did when I was lost and He still provided for me and I’m still here. Never acknowledged Him, but every once in a while when I needed help. He gave me all my drug money, beer money, all of my needs, open doors for me when I needed a job. I’m not saying He gave me the drug money, it was my choice, ha.
But you know what Pastor, I can actually say HALLELUJAH, thank You, Jesus, my I have been saved , it is finished. I’m in my Daddy’s arms again and I will never leave Him again. I love Him, I cherish Him, I am so in Love with Him, for He has captured me, put a new song in me, and I will dance, sing Praises to Him all the days of my life. Nothing like jumping out of the bed in the morning and going to the table and spending time and acknowledging my Father, every morning, walking out on my porch taking a huge breath in and releasing it and saying Good Morning, Daddy, Jesus, Holy Spirit. It’s wonderful, HE PROVIDES MY TABLE EVERYDAY, EVERY MINUTE, EVERY SECOND. HE IS MY KING. Whew ii am so excited, don’t know where I am going, but I’m going somewhere. Just yesterday several of us discussed this very concept “The great cure for this hardness of heart is to give thanks unto The Lord. Rehearse in your heart all He has done for you and enter His presence with thanksgiving, worship Him and bow down before Him.” I also think that this practice is good to build our trust in God as well as “the hardness of heart.” Maybe they are the same! When the gut shot from daily living lands we will straighten up quicker and stand tall like sons and daughters of God!
