Heb.11:9,10 – By faith he lived as a stranger in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Abraham is the father of all true believers who walk by faith. We are like strangers and aliens in our world never quite fitting in. The key to living this way is seen in this verse, Abraham had his eyes on the City of God. This heavenly city becomes our treasure when we have our own spiritual awakening, we become overcome with a love for a different world. Abraham taught us to walk by faith; Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and all of the other people of faith followed Abraham’s path. This is Paul’s point in today’s passage, all of the people of faith who have gone before us have their hearts set on the coming kingdom which sustains and empowers them in the time of difficulty. Here is how Henry describes this verse.
“He sojourned in the land of promise as in a strange country. This was an exercise of his faith. Abraham lived in Canaan only as a stranger. He lived in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. The promise is made to believers and their children, and it is pleasant to see parents and children staying together in this world as heirs of the heavenly inheritance. The supports of Abraham’s faith: He looked for a city, a city with firm foundations, namely, the unchangeable purposes and almighty power of God. Notice the due regard that Abraham had for this heavenly city. He looked for it and waited for it, and in the meantime he lived by his faith, which was a support to him in all the tests of his wandering state.”
Sometimes we Christians feel out of place in this world. If you saw some of the reports coming from the Olympics in Paris you will see what I mean. The mockery of the Lord’s supper displaying transvestites and homosexuals as the Lord and His disciples was a blatant attack on our Christian faith. The Olympic spirit is a clear antichrist spirit, I will try to separate the athletes from the pagans in charge. Today we have to follow in the steps of Abraham, we too must set our heart on the City of God.

When I saw the liberal commercials on the Olympics, I was so disgusted at such freedom that evil has in this world. It made me confirm my values as a Christian and helped me become focused on developing a better walk as a Christian.
