Amos 9:13-15 – MSG – “Yes indeed, it won’t be long now.” GOD’s Decree.
“Things are going to happen so fast your head will swim, one thing fast on the heels of the other. You won’t be able to keep up. Everything will be happening at once—and everywhere you look, blessings! Blessings like wine pouring off the mountains and hills. I’ll make everything right again for my people Israel:
“They’ll rebuild their ruined cities.
They’ll plant vineyards and drink good wine.
They’ll work their gardens and eat fresh vegetables.
And I’ll plant them, plant them on their own land.
They’ll never again be uprooted from the land I’ve given them.”
GOD, your God, says so.

Recently the United States elected a new President, Donald J. Trump. This blog is not a political statement per se but a spiritual observation. According to the pundits on both sides of the aisle there has been a shift in America. Some were saying it was a shift to the right politically and others were saying it was more of a pragmatic shift, people responding the the financial pressure they feel on their pocketbook. For me I see it more of a spiritual moment, maybe the beginning of a spiritual awakening brought on by all of the difficult circumstances we have faced over the last several years.
If we take a look at history there have been several spiritual shifts in our nation that may have been misunderstood by those who don’t really have a spiritual view of the world. For example, the great Awakening beginning in the 1730’s ultimately led to the birth of our country. The 1730’s were a dangerous time characterized by the French and Indian War as well as epidemics that were quite deadly. Could it be that the Great Awakening in the 1730’s and 1740’s was the generational response to the difficult season the people were living in? The Great Awakening could have been the main ingredient in the birthing of our nation in 1776, the true birth of one nation under God.
You could also see the tension in America in the 1960’s with rebellion in the streets connected to the war in Vietnam Nam. The response of the youth in that generation was a shift that culminated in the Jesus Revolution. The results were an awakening that engulfed our nation for twenty years. Our church is one of the results of that movement.
So thinking back to the election maybe we are misreading the Latinos and African American males or the Caucasian women having a shift to the right. Maybe its the beginning of something greater. Maybe this turn is hungry hearts crying out for something real. If that is true something spiritual may be in the works that shakes the very foundation of our nation. We may just be in the beginning of a great move of the Spirit of God.
