BRING THEM HITHER TO ME

Matt.14:17,18 – And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

— He said, Bring them hither to me.

These words could be considered the answer to every dilemma we face, “Bring them hither to Me”. No matter how insufficient your resources are in comparison to the need, bring them in their insufficiency to the Lord. Bring your lack of speaking like Moses and He will fill your mouth with words. Bring your barrel that’s scratching the bottom like Elijah’s widow and you will have enough when others have nothing. Bring your limited skills to Jesus and He will put His blessing upon them and do great things.

Chrysostom said even if you are in a deserted place and time has run out bring your lack to Jesus.

CHRYSOSTOM:

“Finally he said to them, “Bring them here to me.” Although this was a deserted place, he that is here is ready to feed the world. The one who is speaking to you is not subject to time, even though “the day is now over.”

Maybe you feel like you only have a little of the so called creature comforts to enjoy, Matthew Henry says bring them to Jesus.

Henry

“The way to make our creature comforts truly encouraging to us is to bring them to Christ. What we put into the hands of our LORD Jesus is likely to prosper and do us good, so that he may use it as he pleases and we may take it back from him, and then it will be doubly sweet to us.”

Withholding what we have from the Lord is sometimes all about self preservation. We see the problems and needs we face and we see our resources as insufficient. Adam Clarke says that we are not safe in any circumstance without the blessing of God.

Adam Clarke

Bring them hither to me. No creature of God should be considered as good or safe without the blessing of God in it. If thou have but even a handful of meal and a few herbs, bring them to Christ by prayer and faith, and he will make them a sufficiency for thy body, and a sacrament to thy soul. Let the minister of the Gospel attend also to this-let him bring all his gifts and graces to his Maker-let him ever know that his word can be of no use, unless the blessing of Christ be in it.”

So what kind of problem or lack are you facing? It is likely that your talent, skills, or resources will not be enough for you to even just get by. Bring whatever little you have to Jesus. If you stop and are quiet for a minute you just might hear Him. “Bring them hither to Me.”

  1. Love the statement “Withholding what we have from the Lord is sometimes all about self preservation” I think we all have said to ourselves, first about money, I’ve worked hard to save this, I need working capitol, I need a rainy day fund, I need to save for retirement, I get stressed when my account get below this number. Secondly, about our physical involvement, I’m not good in front of a group of people, I don’t know scripture well enough to share my faith with others, there should already be enough help, they don’t need me. We have all “excused’ ourselves agreeing with some or all of these statements. Remind yourself, God made, God gave, God is unchanged, we are the called out ones to live as Jesus did.
