Heb.4:1-3 – Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:
“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Augustine: Our heart is restless until it rests in you.
RESTING IN THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST
There is absolutely nothing we can do to save ourselves. There is no amount of fasting, praying, giving, or working that can attain to the righteousness of God. Righteousness is a gift we receive by faith, faith in the redemptive work of Christ at the cross. This is the message Paul preached that shook the world and the message preached by Luther that birthed the Protestant Reformation. We look to the death of Christ and His resurrection from the dead and we enter into the rest of faith.
RESTING IN HIS PROMISES
Leaning on God’s promises is also a place of great rest. What He has proclaimed is certain. We can be still and rest in the power and faithfulness of God’s promises, what He has declared will certainly come to pass. Learning to be still, listen for His voice, and then rest in what He says can be life changing. We can rest in the powerful promises of God no matter what comes our way.
DRINKING/RECEIVING HIS ANOINTING
John 7:37-39 – In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Drinking in and receiving from the Lord was a life changing adjustment that the Lord helped me to make in August of 1994. I would have to say I was intense and pressing hard for revival in my life to no avail. I came to the painful conclusion that it was impossible for me to bring in a revival, I needed to learn how to receive His life changing impartation in my life. What changed for me? It was in a moment in a service that it suddenly hit me, stop pouring out and start drinking in. It was so simple and yet I had missed it. I was stuck breathing out and all I needed to do was to breath in. That was it, from that point I became overwhelmed by the glory of God.
