John 4:10,14
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water. Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

What makes a good soul winner? Is it someone who has a lot of knowledge about the Bible, or someone that has gone to Bible School? Could it be someone that has a great personality or a knack at communication? These are not the things you see in the Bible or in the life of this woman from Samaria but she effected her whole city. Not only did Jesus stay in her town for three days teaching the people effected by her words, Samaria became the hub of one of the great New Testament revivals. This troubled woman had an effect on her whole region.
What was it that caused this woman’s conversion to have such a great effect on her world? Actually it was her conversion itself. She had gone through five marriages and was living with another man at that time (sounds like not much has changed in 2000 years). Her troubled life had surely had it’s toll on this woman, depression is just part of the package with her lifestyle. Her encounter with Christ was more than just a change of her religious beliefs, something dramatic had happened in her life, something so big it could not be hidden. She obviously got a taste of this living water Jesus was telling her about, the kind of water that satisfies our soul and becomes a spring of life bubbling up inside of us. This taste of the reality of God turned this woman’s life upside down. As she ran to her friends in town there was no denying something had changed, she had a smile that would light up everything around her. She was gushing out living water everywhere she went. Her friends had to find out what had happened. She was crying out as she ran through the town, “Come see a man who told me all I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” All of her friends went out to meet Jesus, it wasn’t long until they were all experiencing the Lord for themselves.
So what makes a good soul winner, someone whose life has been changed, not just a change in what they say they believe, but a change that flows out of their very soul.

  1. This was a great happening, total life change, the Lord met this woman right where she was at, totally changed her life for ever, its not what we know thank god for that its who we know, she met the lord that day, was blown away from the religion she was taught, found water she would never thirst again became the first evangelist as far as we know and her city was given the truth and many came to know Jesus, I really like what happened here, I pray that we can be around to enjoy seeing more in these days, the lord sure does some amazing things.

  2. Great question, what makes a good soul winner? I tried to identify the visible characteristics or a life changing event that is present in a good soul winner. Is it the radical conversion from past life to present life in Christ? For some that radical life change is evident, yet then there are those that accept Christ and it is that long walk. Is it the bold verbal evangelistic types but then there are those soft spoken, few word speaking, being Christ in everything they do soul winners (the meek).
It was not long before I saw a pattern. It is not the outward human characteristics that I was looking for but rather that heart change and over the top appreciation for Christ that is at the center of a good soul winner. It is Christ. How Christ reveals Himself through each person is unique as each person and perfect for the life He predestined for each of us.

  3. Pastor those words ‘gushing out ‘, as opposed to repetitively putting the bucket down the long dark well and then every day wondering will the well be dry and having to laboriously wind the bucket up to sustain oneself, are descriptive of His Presence and Love. With rebirth you KNOW Christ is with you every breathing moment in the form of the Holy Spirit, ready to refresh you. You don’t have to work at calling Him forth, His Love and Mercy are always overflowing and His Word is eternally’ bubbling’ with oxygen for the soul. One who has been reborn KNOWS he/she doesn’t have to earn FORGIVENESS, MERCY and SALVATION 24/7, for they are overflowing, ‘gushing’ gifts of FAITH.

So close up your long, dark and humanly dug hell hole and become reborn and you will never have to worry about your soul running dry !!!!!!! Amen, Amen, and Amen. All Glory and Praise to You Lord Jesus.

  4. What makes a good soulwinner? Simply anyone who is willing to tell the good news of Jesus. Every Christian has been given the ministry of reconciliation. Every Christian needs to be telling others the simple message of Jesus. The harvest is oh so RIPE!!!!
