Knowing Christ

Phil. 3:8-10 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

Spiritual apathy comes from lack of revelation. Spiritual hunger results from revelation, once you have experiential knowledge of the Lord, your entire value system is revolutionized. You are instantly converted to a new value system. Christ Himself becomes the pursuit of your soul. Like millions who have gone before you, you begin to cry out, “More, more of His love, more Lord.” There is a strange contradiction that enters into your life. You experience a new sense of satisfaction and at the same time a deep dissatisfaction, knowing there are greater depths of His love to explore. It’s hard to explain to those who have not drunk from the depths of His love. Spurgeon touches on this strange conflict in these words.

“If you do not desire to know him better, then you love him not, for love always cries, Nearer, nearer. Absence from Christ is hell; but the presence of Jesus is heaven. Rest not then content without an increasing acquaintance with Jesus. Seek to know more of him in his divine nature, in his human relationship, in his finished work, in his death, in his resurrection, in his present glorious intercession, and in his future royal advent. Abide hard by the Cross, and search the mystery of his wounds. An increase of love to Jesus, and a more perfect apprehension of his love to us is one of the best tests of growth in grace.”

One of the greatest proofs of the reality of Jesus Christ is the conversion of the Apostle Paul. There is no rational explanation to the change that happened in Paul’s life except that he had a divine encounter on the Damascus Road. His value system was upended. He was willing to lose everything in pursuit of this new passion in his life. Christ had become for him everything and he was willing to suffer the loss of all things in order to gain Christ. He could never forget that day when Christ suddenly appeared to him, he said His face was brighter than the noon day sun.

Maybe your value system is out of whack. Things that are important to you may have little eternal value. How can you change what you love? You can’t, only He can. Seek Him today. Seek Him in the word, seek Him in prayer. You never know, before the day is over you may be crying out that familiar prayer, “More Lord!!”

  1. This says it all, our whole purpose of even existuing, what would we have without the Lord? nothing would be right in our lives but we would be just around no purpose or hope, not really, nothing would really matter, scarey stuff living a life like that but thank God he changed this for us, not because any of us had it coming but because he loves us, it was his desire to pay for us a fallen race of mankind, he gave us a way back from ourselves in our fallen state we can now go before him because of Jesus im totally in awe why he would even want to do this for such a fallen people but thankful he did. we cant even imagine his love for us, but im glad he loves us remembewr what it was like before we meet the lord? I do, it wasnt so good, I would motivate myselve to acomplish some empty thing tnat would satisfy me for a season but it would be in vain, no real lasting peace or real joy im glad i now dont have to see my whole life wasted in a b unch of nothing He came to give us life and a abundant life in him im rejoiceing today knowing this.

  2. He loves on us with great pleasure my brothers and sisters in Christ! In our homes,on the street,in fellowships, within our assemblies, while working in his vineyard, and etc. Sometimes rain from heaven will fall. Then at times just a little dew. Not to mention wind from heaven blowing. Also at times different kinds of aromas from heaven can be sensed. My God friends he truly loves us! John 13:35;1 John 4:7.1 Corinthians 13.1 Colossians 3:14.
