THE COMFORTER HAS COME

THE COMFORTER HAS COME

John 15:26 But when the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) comes, Whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth Who comes (proceeds) from the Father, He [Himself] will testify regarding Me.

I love this particular verse from the Amplified Bible. That version brings out the different shades of meaning in the beautiful word Jesus used to describe the Holy Spirit. Jesus referred to Him as the Parakletos. This word literally means one called aside to help us. Comforter is one of the titles applied to the Holy Spirit and is quite descriptive of one of His awesome ministries. A.B. Simpson was a pastor in New York City in the early Twentieth Century. He spoke often about the person of the Holy Spirit and taught powerfully about His comforting nature. Here is an excerpt from one of his sermons.

“All the representations which the Scriptures give us of the Holy Ghost are in harmony with this thought of divine motherhood. The regeneration of the soul is described as a new birth, and the Holy Ghost is the mother that gives us this birth. The guidance and nurture of the Spirit after our conversion are described in language borrowed from the nursery and the home. In the deeper needs of the soul, the comfort of the Holy Ghost is described to us under the very image of a mother’s caresses and a mother’s love. “As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you, and ye shall be comforted, saith the Lord.”
In turn, as we are filled with the Holy Ghost, we ourselves have the mother-heart for others, and are able to reflect the blessing and dispense the comfort which we have received. Our prayers for others become maternal longings, travails, and soul-births, and we learn to say with the apostle, “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again, until Christ be formed in you,” and to understand such language as this, “As soon as Zion travailed she brought forth.”

This is an amazing function of the Holy Spirit. He is by His very nature a nurturer. Simpson taught that the Holy Spirit fulfilled the role we know as Mother or nurturer. Inside of all of us is a need to be loved or “mothered”. This is a very special function that meets one of the deepest need of the human heart, there is nothing quite like a mother’s love. Could it be that the love of a mom is really only a shadow of the true nurturer, the precious Holy Spirit? Could it be that our need of a Mother’s comfort can only be met by the Comforter? He is the One who comforts us in all our afflictions. Paul said that the Holy Spirit comforted him in all his troubles enabling him to become a comforter to others also.
If you are hurting today call on The Lord. He is a very present help in times of trouble. He will come to you and love you, He will become the Comforter to you. We can rejoice today with all creation, THE COMFORTER HS COME.

God, This Trinity That He Is — This I Am That I Am — we may never fully understand Right Now as we Live and Breathe upon this Earth, but if we Remain within God, I Believe, “We Will Understand It Better Bye and Bye, When All The Saints are Gathered Home.” And I Believe, God will fix Things we mess up Now, While we Live, Have Faith and Believe!!! 4. I like when you said Paul said that the holy spirit comforted him in all his troubles enableing him to become a comforter to others also. Could this mean that while the holy spirit was comforting him that the holy spirit was useing others to comfort him or was he all alone with the holy spirit?

  5. He did say he travailed with them until Christ be formed in them. Was he just telling them to get with the holy spirit or was he at work with the holy spirit travailing?

  6. In Simpson’s statement he said that in turn as we are filled with the holy spirit we ourselves have the mother heart for others.and are able to reflect the blessing and dispense the comfort that we rereceive. So in order to first be nurtured we must receive someone filled with the ghost for a time than dispense what we have. Or is it that we just tell what’s available and let that person get it on there own? How in so many words can you explain the travailing part ;nutureing part like a mother?

  7. I like to think of Jesus when it comes to travailing. Mathew 16:13-19. Peter upon this rock I will build my church. Peter the one who began to walk on water and sunk. Peter the one who found it hard to follow when he was told to eat flesh and drink blood. Peter the one who said i will not let you Jesus die on a cross. Peter the one who denied Jesus three times and was told in advance he would do it. Peter the one who cut the soldiers ear off violently. Peter the one who got rebuked for sitting only with the Jews by Paul after haveing a dream that got is no respector of persons. Jesus travailed with Peter before and after the cross. If we are willing to follow I believe no matter how much you make a mess of things the church should never give up or label an individual. A church should teach and travail with there sheep if there willing to follow no matter what they have done.
