SINNERS LIKE YOU AND ME

SINNERS LIKE YOU AND ME

1John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us.

The fall of man was more devastating than most people realize. Actually, until you are born again it is hard to even begin to know the implications. All of us are born in a state of spiritual blindness. Like a man who was born physically blind, you have no understanding about light, colors, or physical beauty. Until you can see for yourself, those realities are just meaningless words. We are spiritually blind, we have no way of knowing about true love. All of our understanding of love is ultimately focused on ourselves and our own interests. It is not until the amazing love of God awakens us can we begin to know love and actually begin to live. It is Christ’s love for lost sinners, His death for the ungodly, that finally awakens us from our sleep. Charles Spurgeon explains powerfully about the effect God’s love had on us and how it drew us to salvation.

“There is no light in the planet but that which proceedeth from the sun; and there is no true love to Jesus in the heart but that which cometh from the Lord Jesus himself. From this overflowing fountain of the infinite love of God, all our love to God must spring. This must ever be a great and certain truth, that we love him for no other reason than because he first loved us. Our love to him is the fair offspring of his love to us. Cold admiration, when studying the works of God, anyone may have, but the warmth of love can only be kindled in the heart by God’s Spirit. How great the wonder that such as we should ever have been brought to love Jesus at all! How marvelous that when we had rebelled against him, he should, by a display of such amazing love, seek to draw us back. No! never should we have had a grain of love towards God unless it had been sown in us by the sweet seed of his love to us. Love, then, has for its parent the love of God shed abroad in the heart: but after it is thus divinely born, it must be divinely nourished. Love to Jesus is a flower of a delicate nature, and if it received no nourishment but that which could be drawn from the rock of our hearts it would soon wither.”

All of us awaken from are long spiritual hibernation when we hear the whispers of the Savior’s love. It wasn’t my good works, it wasn’t my own spiritual efforts, it was the amazing effect of God’s love on my sleeping soul. I can say without a doubt, “I love Him because He first loved me”. He won me over. I wasn’t sure there was a God and if there was, I was surely looking in all the wrong places. It was absolutely His electing love that awakened me and revealed His love for me displayed at the cross. Christ died to save sinners, sinners like you and me.

  1. Amen. God is Love; He created man in His own image and our purpose was to love and glorify Him. In Christ, we see this great Love restored to the very throne of our hearts- we can now walk with Love again.
Let us lift up Love, let us lift up Jesus, and He will draw all men unto Himself (John 12:32).

  2. Wow, that’s a lot to LOVE. Hallelujah, and more. Thank You Lord, for Your love=compassion all day long.
Thank You, LORD, for the Cross, O how He loves us. Glory to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
What a light He is. Good morning, Pastor Frank, I saw someone said it was your Birthday yesterday, if it was Happy belated Birthday. Have a gresg day in our LORD, with love.
Let Your Love rain, fill us, shape us, mold us, more of You less of me= us. 😉

  3. My Spirit Seems To Be Dwelling On The Battle Hymn Republic. I Had To Go To The Internet To Find My Favorite Verse Of The Song, But It Is My Favorite: “In The Beauty Of The Lilies Christ Was Born Across The Sea, With a Glory In His Bosom That Transfigures You And Me: As He Died To Make Men Holy, Let Us Die To Make Men Free; While God Is Marching On. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God Is Marching On!” Almighty God Is Still Transforming Souls. To God Alone Be The Glory, Now And Forevermore, Thank You Lord, Amen.
