BRIGHT MORNING STAR
2Pet. 1:19 ¶ And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
Parris and I are at the end of our first ever two week vacation, we are celebrating forty years of marriage and forty years since our conversion. We have had an awesome time of rest and reflection, God is our good. Early this morning I was outside looking at the stars and planets. It was quite unusual; actually, Mars, Jupiter, and Mercury were lined up in a row in the Northern sky just before dawn. It was quite stunning. Obviously, this scripture from 2 Peter came to me about the rising of the morning star. This morning star is a prophetic picture of Jesus Christ and His soon return. Peter was looking for the dawning of the new day. Just as the morning star is a promise of the soon rising of the sun, these glimpses of Christ are a prophetic glimpse int the coming glorious day of The Lord. All darkness will flee before Him, we will be basking in the fullness of His matchless glory. Here is Charles Spurgeon talking about the morning star and the coming day of The Lord.
“Watchman, what of the night? What stars are visible? What precious promises suit our present case? You sound the alarm, give us the consolation also. Christ, the polestar, is ever fixed in his place, and all the stars are secure in the right hand of their Lord. But watchman, when comes the morning? The Bridegroom tarries. Are there no signs of his coming forth as the Sun of Righteousness? Has not the morning star arisen as the pledge of day? When will the day dawn, and the shadows flee away? O Jesus, if thou come not in person to thy waiting Church this day, yet come in Spirit to my sighing heart, and make it sing for joy.
Now all the earth is bright and glad
With the fresh morn;
But all my heart is cold, and dark and sad:
Sun of the soul, let me behold thy dawn!
Come, Jesus, Lord,
O quickly come, according to thy word.”
If this is not the day of the bodily return of Jesus, surely we can enjoy His comings to us as that prophetic day star. As I was looking into that incredible South Pacific sky this morning, I had no doubt, the morning stars promised a full blown sunny Hawaiian day. It was unavoidable, the sun was rising. These prophetic visitations of The Lord that we are presently experiencing are our surety of things to come. The great day of The Lord is sure, it timing draws near, the day star has risen in the Northern sky. Are you anticipating that gospel day? Is your heart beginning to race as you think of the glorious possibilities? The day of The Lord is at hand, His signs are on display in all the earth.
