CRAZY LOVE

CRAZY LOVE

Song 5:16 His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

Have you ever had a sudden, unexpected turn of events? Something totally off of your radar suddenly changed everything. At first you may not know how to read it, then gradually you begin to understand. The unseen friend is breaking into your world. A new, different kind of attraction has barged into your world. Spiritual attraction seems strange to the unregenerate man yet it is the very heart beat of the soul of the redeemed. We count our life as taking on worth the day the treasure hidden in a field became our treasure. Before that day our hearts were restless, searching for some joy or purpose for our existence. Then, like a lightning bolt from the sky, our hearts were penetrated with His unmistakeable love. In one breathtaking moment, our lives were defined. Our past had been eradicated, a new life had begun. Here are words from one of those love struck souls from another century, Charles Spurgeon.

“True love to Christ is in every case the Holy Spirit’s work, and must be wrought in the heart by him. He is the efficient cause of it; but the logical reason why we love Jesus lies in himself. Why do we love Jesus? Because he first loved us. Why do we love Jesus? Because he gave himself for us. We have life through his death; we have peace through his blood. Though he was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor. Why do we love Jesus? Because of the excellency of his person. We are filled with a sense of his beauty! an admiration of his charms! A consciousness of his infinite perfection! His greatness, goodness, and loveliness, in one resplendent ray, combine to enchant the soul till it is so ravished that it exclaims, Yea, he is altogether lovely. Blessed love this-a love which binds the heart with chains more soft than silk, and yet more firm than adamant!”

Maybe your love life has been crowded out by the noise in this 21st Century culture. Our churches have become less about love and more about purpose. Lovers have been replaced by doers, preachers replaced by coaches, and the altars have given way to the coffee shop. Maybe some of us have lost our way because we have lost our love. At the end of the day, Christianity is not about purpose or goals or about marriage seminars or accomplishments. What it all comes down to is falling in love with our Maker. I think someone once said “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, they shall be filled.” I think He also said “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you”.
So I guess this one question is begging to be asked, how is your love life, you know, that other kind of love that can make you crazy; crazy for Him?
