FULLNESS OF TIME

Luke 2:1-6 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. ¶ Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.

The fullness of time had come, Mary had brought her child to full term and creation itself was groaning in anticipation of His birth. The prophets words were hanging thick in the air, the time of the Messiah’s birth had finally arrived, even the angels could hold their songs back no longer. Here are some verses that began to be fulfilled that first Christmas Day. Merry Christmas.

1. It was time for the woman’s seed to crush the serpent’s head

Gen. 3:15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”

2. It was time for the desire of all nations to come

Hag. 2:7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts.

3. It was time for the one whose going forth from the days of eternity to come

Mic. 5:2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting.”

4. It was time for Immanuel to come

Is. 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

5. It was time for the one who will carry the government on His shoulders to come

Is. 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

6. It was time for a woman to compass a man

Jer. 31:22 How long will you gad about,
O you backsliding daughter?
For the LORD has created a new thing in the earth—
A woman shall encompass a man.”

7. It was time for the Sun of righteousness to arise with healing in His beams

Mal. 4:2 But to you who fear My name
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings;
And you shall go out
And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
