TURN ON THE LIGHTS

TURN ON THE LIGHTS

The life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God.
Galatians 2:20

Have you ever been in a really dark room, or even better, out in the woods in the country on a moonless night? I was recently walking on a very dark gravel road, far away from the city lights, late at night. It was so dark I could see absolutely nothing. That is what it is like to be walking around in life without the faith of The Lord Jesus Christ in your life. You see, faith is not generated by us. We can’t muster up faith. You can’t generate what you don’t have. That would be like a blind man trying really hard to see. Until the blind man’s sight is restored he can never see. Without faith, which is a gift from God, we are walking around in the dark. The craziest thing is this, many think they can see, they think faith comes from within. Charles Spurgeon spoke about this miracle of faith in his comments on today’s verse.

“Faith lays hold upon the Lord Jesus with a firm and determined grasp. She knows his excellence and worth, and no temptation can induce her to repose her trust elsewhere; and Christ Jesus is so delighted with this heavenly grace, that he never ceases to strengthen and sustain her by the loving embrace and all-sufficient support of his eternal arms. Here, then, is established a living, sensible, and delightful union which casts forth streams of love, confidence, sympathy, complacency, and joy, whereof both the bride and bridegroom love to drink. When the soul can evidently perceive this oneness between itself and Christ, the pulse may be felt as beating for both, and the one blood as flowing through the veins of each. Then is the heart as near heaven as it can be on earth, and is prepared for the enjoyment of the most sublime and spiritual kind of fellowship.”

Spurgeon is describing the results of a heart opened up by faith, Suddenly the things of God become real. Not only do they become real, they become precious. The relationship with The Lord that flows from this gift of faith becomes the very center of your life. We have come into contact with God, the Living God, and He has brought us into a beautiful fellowship of love.
Now going back to that dark gravel road, suddenly a bright light came on. I had stepped in front of some kind of motion detector and the whole world was lit up. I was no longer in the dark, I could see clearly. That is exactly what happens to us when the grace of God invades our lives, we are awakened to this bright new world, we are no longer stumbling around in the dark. Maybe you feel like you are “feeling” your way through life, if so, be still and wait upon The Lord. As you draw near, His faith will enlighten your world.
