BURDEN CASTING

BURDEN CASTING

Psa. 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

All of us have our fair share of trouble in this life. When our eyes are on our troubles, rather than on The Lord, we seem to think our burdens are heavier than the ones anyone else has. David understood trouble, he was chased for years by King Saul, living in caves and foraging for his daily sustenance. He faced rebellion from family and close friends when he was king. He had also fought his share of battles with his perpetual enemy, the Philistines. In this verse David shares with us how he was able to make it through the mine fields of life. He had learned that these burdens had actually come from The Lord and only He could sustain him and ultimately deliver him. Here is how Albert Barnes saw it.

“The ” literal” rendering would be, ” Cast upon Jehovah what he hath given thee; that is, thy lot.” The phrase, ” he gives thee,” here means what he appoints for thee; what he allots to thee as thy portion; what, in the great distribution of things in his world, he has assigned to ” thee” to be done or to be borne; cast it all on him. Receive the allotment as coming from him; as what ” he” has, in his infinite wisdom, assigned to thee as thy portion in this life; as what ” he” has judged it to be best that then shouldest do or bear; as ” thy” part of toil, or trouble, or sacrifice, in carrying out his great arrangements in the world. That portion thus assigned to ” us,” we are directed to ” cast upon the Lord;” that is, we are to look to him to enable us to do or to bear it. As it is ” his” appointment, we should receive it, and submit to it, without complaining; as it is ” his” appointment, we may feel assured that no more has been laid upon us than is commensurate with our ability, our condition, our usefulness, our salvation. We have not to rearrange what has been thus appointed, or to adjust it anew, but to do all, and endure all that he has ordained, leaning on his arm.”

When we first started our church in 1979, I received one of these “burdens” from The Lord. We were “given” a church building to meet in. This building came with picketers. For the first eleven months, our church was picketed every Sunday. I found myself meeting with lawyers, testifying in court, and paying outrageous legal fees. I was learning day to day to cast my burdens upon The Lord. I knew this building was a gift from God, it took a while to realize the picketers were part of the deal.
Maybe you are facing some unwanted burdens today. Cast them on The Lord, He will sustain you. You never know, maybe this so called burden is God’s vehicle to bring you into a place of blessing.

    Have not had a situation in awhile to come upon me until last night at work. The first thing I wanted to do was find someone to listen an agree with me about how I was done wrong but the whole time I heard cast it on me. Your right on time with this one for my journey. Thank you.

  3. I can testify that the Lord recently delivered me from a huge burden. I was crying out to Jesus for weeks, that then became months but He did not leave me or forsake me on those times of trouble. His mercies renewed every morning and He sustained me while I was in that process. My Reedemer lives. I love my Lord and Savior with all my heart.
