LET GOD ARISE
Psa. 68:1-2 ¶ Let God arise, Let His enemies be scattered; Let those also who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, So drive them away; As wax melts before the fire, So let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
If you are living for God you will have enemies. They may not announce themselves as enemies and may actually cloak themselves like a friend (like Judas), but in reality they are enemies. They are enemies of God. Until a man yields his heart to The Lord he is opposed to Christ and His kingdom. He may not be aware of it and may actually believe he is helping by steering you away from Christ, but in actuality he is functioning as an enemy of a God. Sometimes our circumstances are just a mask for the spiritual enemy to hide behind. As this scripture teaches, as we call upon The Lord and prophesy, our enemies are suddenly on the run. Let God arise and a His enemies be scattered. John Calvin knew something about enemies, he spent most of his life in exile for his faith. Here is something he said about the power of God and the sure defeat of our enemies.
“As smoke is driven away, etc. The psalmist adds a striking figure to illustrate how easily God can overthrow the machinations of our enemies, comparing them to smoke which vanishes away when blown upon by the wind, or wax which melts before the fire. We consider it utterly incredible that such a formidable array of opposition should be made to disappear in a moment. But the Spirit takes this method of chiding the fearfulness of our carnal minds, and teaching us that there is no such strength in our enemies as we suppose — that we allow the smoke of them to blind our eyes, and the solid mass of resistance which they present to deceive us into a forgetfulness of the truth, that the mountains themselves flow down at the presence of the Lord.”
The Lord Himself said it would be better to have a stone tied around our neck and thrown into the sea than to try to stumble one of God’s children. Many times former church members will try to spread their offense by alluring other Christians away from the church. From God’s perspective, nothing could be more vile.
If you are facing enemies today, the kind with human faces or the more subtle kind, you can join together with the Psalmist and begin to prophesy, “Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered.” As smoke scatters before the wind, your enemies will scatter. There is nothing that can withstand the power of The Lord. If God be for us, who can be against us. No Judas, no sickness, no disappointment, nothing can separate us from His love. Our God has arisen, and His power is at work on our behalf.
