“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.” Lamentations 3:21

God causes even our memories to be renewed under His guidance. I remember when The Lord gave me the example of “heads or tails” on a coin. It’s learning to see our lives through “his looking glass”. I find when difficulties come that I begin to recall the wonders of God over my life these past 41 years. So many victories! CS Lewis in the book of Narnia so elegantly depicted Narnia through the eyes of poor Edmund or precious Lucy. Oh to have the grace that Lucy had when trouble came her way, for she flew to her Aslan. Listen to this quote from Pilgrim’s Progress when Christian and Hopeful found themselves in Doubting Castle; “At midnight on Saturday, despite their wounds, Christian and Hopeful began to pray (like Paul and Silas in Acts 16:25), and they continued this prayer throughout the night. Then we read of the amazing escape: “Now a little before it was Day, good Christian, as one half amazed, brake out in this passionate speech; ‘What a fool,’ quoth he, ‘am I, thus to lie in a stinking dungeon, when I may as well walk at liberty? I have a key in my bosom, called Promise, that will I am persuaded open any lock in Doubting-Castle.’ Using the key, Christian and Hopeful escaped.” Wow, what promise have you lying in your bosom? Such a vast treasury of scripture that we can RECALL TO MIND. I pray your memory gives you hope and not discouragement, life and not fear, freedom and not bondage. Psalms 77:6 “I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. vs.11 ” I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. Spurgeon says, “Fly back my soul, away from present turmoil, to the grandeurs of history, the sublime deeds of Jehovah, the Lord of Hosts; for he is the same and is ready even now to defend his servants as in days of yore.” Lets cast our tools of faith and prayer and mine for gold that doesn’t fade away. There in those deep dark caverns lays hidden promises. Spurgeon says, “many a promise lay in invisible ink which we cannot read until the fires comes”. I’m going to get mine—-see you in the caves!

  1. Amen! Yes our tools of faith and prayer and mine for gold that doesn’t fade away.thank you Jesus for your precious promises and your love toward your children we love Jesus !

  2. I apologize now for the length of my response but it has been years in the making.

Probably two years ago The Lord impressed upon me to make book markers, each of something He has done for me that stands out in my mind. I wrote down a list of major events, ranging from salvation, moments He visited me, spoke to me, dreams and or visions to working events out that in this reality just were very improbable to impossible. This very project He had me do, was what He has directed His children to do for thousands of years and it’s effects were the same, a stronger faith.
Just yesterday I pondered faith and scriptures that describe faith. We are given a measure faith and that He causes our faith to grow. Lord, how can these two opposing ideas be true. The thought came to me that He gave me faith which is equal to acres of land which I fenced in a portion I was comfortable in and there I existed.
Over time, He, through those bookmarks has had me expand my fences to include more of what is mine. Until yesterday when I felt Him say, “your faith is in Me and I am without boundaries, NO FENCES!”
I see it not in the least odd that these events have intersected. My pondering on faith, God’s thought on my pondering, Pastor Steve’s visit, this blog and my devotion from Charles Spurgeon which follows.

“Christian, you ought not to dread the arrival of evil tidings; because if you are distressed by them, what do you more than other men? Other men have not your God to fly to; they have never proved his faithfulness as you have done, and it is no wonder if they are bowed down with alarm and cowed with fear: but you profess to be of another spirit; you have been begotten again unto a lively hope, and your heart lives in heaven and not on earthly things; now, if you are seen to be distracted as other men, what is the value of that grace which you profess to have received? Where is the dignity of that new nature which you claim to possess?
Again, if you should be filled with alarm, as others are, you would, doubtless, be led into the sins so common to others under trying circumstances. The ungodly, when they are overtaken by evil tidings, rebel against God; they murmur, and think that God deals hardly with them. Will you fall into that same sin? Will you provoke the Lord as they do?
Moreover, unconverted men often run to wrong means in order to escape from difficulties, and you will be sure to do the same if your mind yields to the present pressure. Trust in the Lord, and wait patiently for him. Your wisest course is to do as Moses did at the Red Sea, “Stand still and see the salvation of God.” For if you give way to fear when you hear of evil tidings, you will be unable to meet the trouble with that calm composure which nerves for duty, and sustains under adversity. How can you glorify God if you play the coward? Saints have often sung God’s high praises in the fires, but will your doubting and desponding, as if you had none to help you, magnify the Most High? Then take courage, and relying in sure confidence upon the faithfulness of your covenant God, “let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.””
“Thank You, Lord!” \o/ empty hands raised high

Have a blessed day in our KING JESUS, PASTOR Parris, love YOU ALL.. HALLELUJAH…
