For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God. PSALM 86:10
I recently saw a movie called Interstellar. This film caused me to think again about the vastness of the universe. Just this morning I read that there is new evidence of two planets past Pluto about 200 times further from the sun than earth, that is 200 x 93,000,000 miles. The vastness of our solar system is shocking, what about the billions of other stars and solar systems in the universe? Yeah, the universe is created to display the vastness of God, His majesty is unsearchable. Having a relationship with such an incredible Being is too good to be true yet that is exactly what the Bible offers. This person of infinite qualities entered into His own creation as a man to reveal His great love to us. Redemption is even more unsearchable than the universe we live in. Here are some thoughts by Andrew Murray on this very topic.
“Before anyone starts with an important task, he will invariably take time to consider the magnitude of his undertaking. Scientists who study nature require years of intensive research before they are able to gain a reasonable understanding of the vastness of the universe.
Ought we not then to take time to get to know our great and wonderful God, so that we might give Him the adoration that is His due?
Yet how superficial our knowledge of His greatness tends to be! We do not set aside enough time to bow before Him in adoration, with the result that we fail to gain a real appreciation of His majesty and glory. Meditate on the following texts until you are filled with a sense of God and His glory: Psalm 95:3, 6; 145:3–7; Jeremiah 32:17–19.
It is not easy to grasp the full meaning of these texts. Therefore, you must give time for the words to ‘sink in and stir your heart until you feel compelled to bow in speechless adoration before God’”.
If this whole existence and all of creation exists to display God’s glory and love, our purpose for existence is to explore and enjoy not only creation but the Creator of all things. It is discovering His love through the sacrificial death of Christ and the outpouring of His Spirit on our lives that we find the satisfaction and adventure all our hearts are looking for. Let your adventure begin today, basking in His majesty as you search His word and drink in His presence.
