CURSED

Gal. 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—

Isaiah 53:12 – He was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Redemption is quite a mystery. It is quite unthinkable for someone as holy and exalted as the Lord to even give a second thought to fallen man. Not only does He give us a second thought, His thoughts and care for us are deeper than the ocean; in other words, they are endless. He went to the most extreme measures to save us, He stooped down and became one of us; it didn’t stop there. He took the very curse that was on mankind upon Himself. That’s what the cross is, it is God’s judgement and love displayed in the same act. He took our curse satisfying the justice of God, He placed His righteousness on us displaying His great love. What is our part in this matter? We receive this gift of righteousness simply by faith. This is the foundation stone of Paul’s preaching and also the Protestant reformation. The just shall live by faith. Here are some thoughts from Luther on this unthinkable act of God.

“All the prophets of old said that Christ should be the greatest transgressor, murderer, adulterer, thief, blasphemer that ever was or ever could be on earth. When He took the sins of the whole world upon Himself, Christ was no longer an innocent person. He was a sinner burdened with the sins of a Paul who was a blasphemer; burdened with the sins of a Peter who denied Christ; burdened with the sins of a David who committed adultery and murder, and gave the heathen occasion to laugh at the Lord. In short, Christ was charged with the sins of all men, that He should pay for them with His own blood. The curse struck Him. The Law found Him among sinners. He was not only in the company of sinners. He had gone so far as to invest Himself with the flesh and blood of sinners. So the Law judged and hanged Him for a sinner.”
Christ took my sins and your sins on Himself. The result? I receive His own very righteousness as a gift by faith; amazing grace.
