1John 2:27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.

The word ‘anointing’ is one of those Bible words that is often misunderstood. People will say that someone who has a talented voice and hits those high notes is anointed. I have heard public speakers that are quite passionate and even entertaining referred to as anointed. Sometimes, people that build huge organizations or ministries are referred to as anointed. In each of these cases someone may or may not be anointed, human talent sometimes is mistaken for the anointing.

What is the anointing? It is the tangible presence of God that comes and rests upon a person for the purpose of advancing the kingdom of God. The anointing came upon David to worship, write songs, and kill the giant. The anointing came upon Samson to perform feats of strength. The anointing empowered Peter to preach on the Day of Pentecost and caused Stephen’s face to shine like an angel while he was being martyred. The anointing is the supernatural enabling to do the impossible for the glory of God.

There are different kinds of anointings. There is an anointing to overcome weaknesses. Rom. 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness”.

There is an anointing for prayer. Rom.8:26 – “For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words”.

Peter said that there was an anointing to help us through times of persecution and suffering. 1Pet. 4:14 “If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you”.

Isaiah even said that there was an anointing that breaks the power of the enemy. Is. 10:27 “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing”.

The good news for all of us, we live in a time that the anointing is available for everyone. The measure of His anointing will be in proportion to His calling and our yieldedness. He is more than sufficient for whatever you face.

Eph. 3:20 ¶ “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us
