Isa.55:8-10 – “For my thoughts about mercy are not like your thoughts,
and my ways are different from yours.
As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so my ways and my thoughts are higher than yours.
As the snow and rain that fall from heaven
do not return until they have accomplished their purpose,
soaking the earth and causing it to sprout with new life,
providing seed to sow and bread to eat.
So also will be the word that I speak;”
This is an amazing passage of scripture that is full of references to the beauty and power of God’s word. The first one refers to God’s words as His thoughts. As the passage says, God’s thoughts are not like our thoughts. His thoughts carry the very creative power of His word. He speaks and life comes. Next, His word is displayed by His ways. His actions are actions of love and are clearly displayed through the life, ministry and death of God’s Son. The snow falls from heaven and literally blankets the earth giving a picture of His mercy. As Isaiah also said, Isa1:18 “Though your sins stain you like scarlet, I will whiten them like bright, new-fallen snow!”
Rain and water are also beautiful pictures of the word of God. He is continually raining down His love on us, washing us in the water of His Word. Every time we open the scripture and feed on it we are experiencing the life giving power of His word.
Jesus Himself taught in His parable of the sower that the word is like seed being scattered on the earth. Like seeds being sown in the earth, God’s word sown in our hearts brings forth eternal fruit.
The Word of God is also compared to the bread that comes down to us from heaven. “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of our Heavenly Father”. I often think about the days after my conversion and how my life changed. A spiritual hunger was awakened inside of me. The only way I can describe it was like this, I was like a man starving to death who had found a fresh loaf of bread. I ate and ate until I began to experience nourishment in my soul that only comes from God’s word. So maybe, just maybe, a new hunger is awakening in your soul. Feast on His bread, it is life for your soul.
