1 John 1:5-7 – This is the life-giving message we heard him share and it’s still ringing in our ears. We now repeat his words to you: God is pure light. You will never find even a trace of darkness in him. If we claim that we share life with him, but keep walking in the realm of darkness, we’re fooling ourselves and not living the truth. But if we keep living in the pure light that surrounds him, we share unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, continually cleanses us from all sin.
There are several quotes of Jesus that are not found in the four gospels (obviously Jesus said and did more than those books contain). One of those quotes comes from Acts 20 when Paul quoted Jesus when he said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”. Those words obviously ring with authenticity. It absolutely sounds like Jesus. It brings up thoughts of other things Jesus said, “Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened.” In today’s verses we say another saying of Jesus, “God is pure light. You will never find even a trace of darkness in him”. This brings us to the importance of walking in fellowship with the Lord or as John would say, “walking in the light”. If we stay in communion with the Lord through His word, the anointing, and fellowship with His church we will walk in the light. This keeps us from the deception that is controlling our society today. Only the Lord can keep us in truth and free from the bondage of sin. Here are some comments from the Passion Notes on today’s verses.
“‘God is pure light, no darkness at all can find any place in him’. Although we do not have these exact words in any of the four Gospels, it is clear that John and the apostles attributed these words to Jesus Christ. Not everything Jesus said or did is recorded in the Gospels. If all of the events given in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were condensed, we would only have details recorded of but a few months of Jesus’ entire life of over thirty-three years.”
I love to read the words of Jesus. No man ever spoke like Him. He has words of life that I can feast on everyday, these words keep me from the darkness of this generation.
