Gal.3:26-28- For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

The liberating power of Christianity has been seen in every sector of our world. From the earliest days of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit has been liberating mankind. First, He freed us from the shackles of sin that enslaved all of us. From there, the chains of prejudice that are connected to race and gender have been destroyed by the power of the gospel. From the first resurrection message being preached by a woman to Simon Peter ministering at a gentile home, the gospel has shattered the bondages of prejudice.

Today’s verse makes it crystal clear “There is neither Jew nor Greek (today that would be black or white), there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus”.

Historically, outpourings of the Spirit destroy these prejudices. If you study the Welch Revival you see a consistent major role being played by young women in spreading the gospel. At Azusa Street, the barriers of racism and gender prejudice were decimated. That Revival was lead by an African American, effected every race. Women became a major part of that movement under Seymour’s leadership many going as missionaries throughout the world. Here are some comments from the publication the Fuller Studio that speaks of Azusa Street.

“Pastor Seymour welcomed women into the Azusa Street pulpit, provided credentials to women and men, and sent them out as missionaries and church planters. He published his commitment in the following words:

‘It is contrary to the Scriptures that woman should not have her part in the salvation work to which God has called her. We have no right to lay a straw in her way, but to be men of holiness, purity and virtue, to hold up the standard and encourage the woman in her work, and God will honor and bless us as never before. It is the same Holy Spirit in the woman as in the man.’”

The problem is that we all tend to gravitate to our religious biases. What is the answer? Of course the only answer is more of His presence. Everywhere the Spirit flows there is life.

2 Cor.3:17 – “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty”.
