Heb.10:25 – This is not the time to pull away and neglect meeting together, as some have formed the habit of doing, because we need each other! In fact, we should come together even more frequently, eager to encourage and urge each other onward as we anticipate that day dawning.

It is easy to get out of the routine of going to church. Paul was dealing with a situation with the church in Jerusalem with many people not attending the gatherings. The reason was that there was persecution beginning to break out so it was safer to just not go to church. I am sure it was quite a decision for parents wanting to keep their children safe. At the end of the day we have to decide how important our Christianity is and what role gathering physically with others plays. Making that choice to not go to meetings in Jerusalem was going to have long term spiritual ramifications on everyone. We need church, our children need church; if anything is absolutely essential church would be it. There are many really important reasons to gather in physical meetings, I want to mention a couple of them for you today.

Rev.2:1 – These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lamp-stands.

Jesus always manifests Himself in the gathering of His church. He dwells in our corporate worship in very profound ways that just cannot be replaced. He loves the gathering of His people and all of us need the intimacy we find when Jesus walks into our meetings.

1 Cor.12:13 – For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

Drinking of His presence is much easier in corporate worship. The anointing on His people multiplies when we gather making drinking of His Spirit much more effective. Have you had a good spiritual intoxicating drink lately?

Lev.26:8 – Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall by the sword before you.

There is power in the gathering of God’s people. There are forces hostile to the kingdom of God that have plotting and attacking during this recent crisis. We cannot defeat them alone. We need the power of corporate worship and anointing to put the enemy to flight.

1 Cor.12:27 – Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

Finally, we need one another. We need the ministry of the apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists, and pastors. On-line services cannot replace what happens in the church atmosphere. We need the gifts of the other members of the body of Christ. Actually, the body needs your gifts. When you aren’t there the church is effected; you are essential in our house. We have all experienced all sorts of stuff these last few months; maybe its time to just go to church.
