Eph.1:18-20 – I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling —that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones!
I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to you through faith. Then your lives will be an advertisement of this immense power as it works through you!
This prayer from the Apostle Paul gives us a look into the amazing riches and privileges we have received in Christ. Actually that in itself is a foretaste of heaven. Heaven will be an eternal unveiling of the Glory of the Lord. This prayer touches the riches that are ours beginning now and will only increase in intensity throughout eternity. Paul had touched the edge of our wealth in Christ and was trying to bring us along into this great revelation. He prayed first that we would see the blessing of the hope of our calling. Election is one of the most mysterious, blessed, and controversial revelations taught by the Apostle Paul. In Ephesians 1:4 he saiid, “even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him”. Think of it, chosen out of the misery and darkness of this world to enjoy the blessings of sonship that begin in this life and come into their fullness in eternity. The calling of God is priceless.
Similarly Paul prayed that we would be given the grace to see the riches of our inheritance. What does that inheritance consist of? First, the Lord Himself is our portion. We are given access to intimacy and friendship with God. That alone is better than everything else in this life. In addition to that we are given health, provision, and protection in this life. Our inheritance is past explanation.
Next, Paul prays that we would be flooded with the light of revelation of the power of God that was made available to us through the Holy Spirit. When Christ took His place at the right hand of the Father as a man, all authority and power was given to Christ and also to His sons and daughters. Unlimited power is poured out on us and through us. We have access to the unlimited power of God. All of these blessings are ours in Christ. Revelation light opens all of this up to us.
