Jn.1:4,5 – In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Jn.1:9 – That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
I have often thought about the possibility of time travel. It’s fun to think of visiting another time in history and seeing what life was like. Apparently it may be easier to go back in time than it would be to go forward in time. Check out these thoughts from the NASA Science Space Place.
“More than 100 years ago, a famous scientist named Albert Einstein came up with an idea about how time works. He called it relativity. This theory says that time and space are linked together. Einstein also said our universe has a speed limit: nothing can travel faster than the speed of light (186,000 miles per second). What does this mean for time travel? Well, according to this theory, the faster you travel, the slower you experience time. Scientists have done some experiments to show that this is true.
For example, there was an experiment that used two clocks set to the exact same time. One clock stayed on Earth, while the other flew in an airplane (going in the same direction Earth rotates).
After the airplane flew around the world, scientists compared the two clocks. The clock on the fast-moving airplane was slightly behind the clock on the ground. So, the clock on the airplane was traveling slightly slower in time than 1 second per second.”
Now as a Christian I believe that all things, even time itself, was created by the Lord. If that is true, He lives outside of space and time. In other words if you could travel back to 1776 He would be there. If you were to travel to 2076, He would be there too. Just think about that, He is the Eternal One. When Moses asked what His name was He said I am. He has always been. He is the One who was and is and is to come.
In today’s verse Jesus is described as the Light. Eternal light is different from created light, He is uncreated light. This is the Light that said ‘let there be light’ and galaxies of light exploded into existence. With this in mind the birth of Christ is past understanding. The eternal light entered into this dark and finite world. The incomprehensible nature of that, the Creator in a manger, caused angels to burst into thunderous song singing, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
The true light has come, all we can do is worship.
