Deut.11:12 – the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.
I used to really look forward to our annual visit with Dick Mills about this time every year. Brother Mills came to our church around New Year’s day almost every year for many years. One of his favorite verses at New Year’s was today’s scripture text. I remember being amazed by the sovereign nature of this Bible promise and the peace and comfort it always brought to my heart. Even today as I read this promise I can hear Brother Mills declaring this prophetic word. “From January 1 until December 31 the Lord has His eye on you and each of your days. He has good plans for you this year and He is watching over His word to bring it to pass.” Here is how Charles Spurgeon sees this promise.
“The eyes of the Lord our God are always on us, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year. Some of us say, “I have had deep troubles this year.” “I have lost a friend,” says one. “I have been impoverished this year,” says another. “I have been slandered,” cries another. “I have been exceedingly vexed and grieved,” says another. “I have been persecuted,” says another. But take the year altogether—the troubles and the joys, the hills and the valleys, and what have we to say about it? Do not pick out one day in the year and say it was a bad day. Let the year revolve in all its grandeur, and then say, “He hath done all things well”. And why have all things been well? It is because the eyes of the Lord have been on us all the year. If those eyes had been shut for a single moment, night or day, where would we have been? We would not have been at all, but swept away, like airy dreams, into annihilation.”
The Lord never closes His eyes in sleep or gets distracted by other things, He is focused intently on every day of my year in 2021. He is watching over His promises and I believe He is accelerating them to bring them all to pass. So as we begin this new year grab this promise and make it yours. Each day is loaded with His miracle power.
