Acts 1:8 – But I promise you this—the Holy Spirit will come upon you and you will be filled with power. And you will be my messengers to Jerusalem, throughout Judea, the distant provinces —even to the remotest places on earth!
I need the Holy Ghost! The Lord has given all of us a challenge. “Go into all of the world and preach the gospel to all people.” He has called us at Victory to preach the gospel to our world – we must preach Christ to New Orleans. I need the Holy Ghost! This generation has heard it all and seen it all, so they think. They have seen and heard the television preachers. They have seen and heard the casual Christian promoters and their mega church promises. All of it has left a strange taste in our mouth. Could that be the form of godliness without the power Paul warned about? We need the Holy Ghost! We need the power of God that changes lives radically and heals the sick consistently. We need the power that restores broken hearts permanently. This generation is in need of an outpouring of the power of God with signs, wonders, and miracles. This is how Jonathan Edwards described this passage.
“He (Christ) told ’em (His disciples) that they should receive power by a Spirit that should come upon them, whereby they should be qualified to be witnesses unto him in Judea and Jerusalem and Samaria, and to the utmost parts of the earth. Now ’tis most evident that they were endowed with some extraordinary spirit and uncommon influence, that endowed them with power, strength, courage, activity, comfort and eloquence, and answered those purposes that Christ spoke of in an extraordinary manner. Nothing is more evident than [that] they were in a new and very extraordinary manner endowed with a spirit or influence that carried [them] quite above themselves, and made ’em quite new men as to gifts of knowledge, courage, eloquence, zeal and activity, steadfastness and resolution, and other things to qualify ’em for that work of being witnesses for Christ, or preaching Christ in such a manner as to tend to success.”
Only the power of God will do to effect the world we live in today. I believe this generation is ready, I believe 2020 prepared us for something very special. It’s time to get back to church and join our prayer, talent, and resources together and be part of an historic move of God.
