Acts 4:10 – let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead–by this name this man stands here before you in good health.
One of the irrefutable signs of the resurrection of Jesus was the resurrection power that was working in His followers. This is the first miracle healing miracle recorded in the scriptures after Jesus was raised from the dead. It could hardly be more spectacular. This poor man had been lame from birth. He was stationed at the gate of the temple daily receiving hand outs just so that he could survive. The unthinkable happened, Peter grabbed the man by the hand and before you know it he was “walking and leaping, and praising God” in the temple. The miracle was dramatic and public. Literally thousands of people came to the Lord that day.
One of the things I noticed when rereading this story was the emphasis of the preaching of Peter. He seemed to connect the healing of this poor man to the resurrection. The same Spirit that raised Jesus up from the dead healed this lame man. Here is what Barclay says about this miracle.
“The early preachers always stressed the vindication of the resurrection. It is the simple fact that without the resurrection the Church would never have come into being. The resurrection was proof that Jesus was indestructible and was Lord of life and of death. It was the final proof that behind him there was God and therefore a power which nothing could stop. The early preachers always stressed the power of the risen Lord. They never regarded themselves as the sources of power but only as channels of power. They were well aware of their limitations but were also well aware that there was no limitation to what the risen Christ could do through them and with them. Here lies the secret of the Christian life.”
All things are possible with Jesus. No matter what sickness or obstacle exists that is literally crippling your world the resurrection power can destroy it. There is healing power in the Name of Jesus through the power of His resurrection. As Peter said, “silver and gold have I none but such as I have I give to you”. Grab His healing power – Be healed in Jesus Name.
