Acts 7:48-50 – However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says:
‘HEAVEN IS MY THRONE,
AND THE EARTH IS THE FOOTSTOOL OF MY FEET;
WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME?’ says the Lord,
‘OR WHAT PLACE IS THERE FOR MY REST?
‘WAS IT NOT MY HAND THAT MADE ALL THESE THINGS?’

Steven was touching on something of the eternal nature of God in the sermon that resulted in his death. He was preaching that God is not able to be contained by a temple made by human hands. He quoted from the prophet Isaiah who said that all of creation itself could not contain God. How could it? He created everything that exists and lives outside of His own creation.
Now take a moment and think about the enormity of what Steven was preaching, the entire universe that consists of innumerable solar systems, galaxies, black holes, and mysteries we have not even imagined is not able to contain our God. He is bigger than His creation. The more we develop scientifically the more astounding we realize the universe is. Creation exists primarily to display His greatness. Our God is greater than we can comprehend. Here is a quote from Wikipedia about the size of the universe. This is unthinkable !!!

“The universe is all of space and time and their contents, including planets, stars, galaxies, and all other forms of matter and energy. The Big Bang theory is the prevailing cosmological description of the development of the universe. According to estimation of this theory, space and time emerged together 13.799±0.021 billion years ago, and the universe has been expanding ever since. While the spatial size of the entire universe is unknown, the cosmic inflation equation indicates that it must have a minimum diameter of 23 trillion light years, and it is possible to measure the size of the observable universe, which is approximately 93 billion light-years in diameter at the present day.”

Steven had glimpsed God’s greatness. He is bigger than anything man can build or even dream of. The astounding thing that Steven was preaching, this Creator had become a human and had died in our place. This great God loves us, He loves us so much that He was crucified so that we can know this great God. Steven was willing to die for this truth, no wonder He saw Jesus standing at the Father’s right hand.
