Heb.1:1-3 – And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.

Have you ever thought about what holds everything together? What do I mean? If not for the unseen so called X factor everything would fly apart. Everything from sub-atomic particles to solar systems and galaxies are held together or held in place by something beyond our ability to quite understand. Then there are the complexities of our society. What keeps our political system from imploding on itself or what keeps the roque nations at bay. To me, everything seems so fragile but we keep on keeping on day after day. Then, of course, there is that elephant in the room. You know, your own life. What keeps your world from totally imploding on itself? Today’s verse says that unseen force is the Lord. He is holding all things together until, until He doesn’t anymore. The end of this age is approaching when total implosion becomes inevitable. Here is how Andrew Murray describes today’s verse.
“He upholds all things by the word of his power: he keeps the world from dissolving. By him all things consist. The weight of the whole creation is laid upon Christ: he supports the whole and all the parts. When, upon the apostasy, the world was breaking to pieces under the wrath and curse of God, the Son of God, undertaking the work of redemption, bound it up again, and established it by his almighty power and goodness….Upholding all things by the word of His power. He bears all things, all things consist in Him. Since they were not created without Him, can they exist without Him? He upholds them every moment by the word of His power, even as by His word they were created. This is the Son through whom God speaks.”

So the end of this age and our world is coming to a rapid end. The evidence of its demise is all around us. What is holding everything together for the time being? The simple pleasure of God. His plan is not complete, there are souls still being prepared to come in; when that happens the world as we know will collapse upon itself. What is He waiting for? He is waiting for the final gathering together of His sons and daughters. Until then He is upholding all things by the word of His power.

  1. Funny every man and woman after being saved prays come quickly Lord Jesus, while those yet to bow their hearts unknowingly would be asking for a little more time. What a job Jesus has, holding this all together until…. This is why every generation of believers have lived with the urgency that time may run out on their watch. What a great question to ask ourselves, what would we do different seeing things from Jesus’ perspective?

We sing, “I will wait upon the Lord.” His response is, “I am waiting on you to Go!” We cry, “More Lord, More.” And He responds with “What have you done with what I gave you?” He has given His Son, and His Spirit, and ALL things pertaining to life and godliness. The Gospel is not “Good News” to those that have not heard it, to those that are perishing without Christ. Because we are comfortable being blessed, rather than being a blessing to others and the Body of Christ to this dying world.
