Heb.8:1 – Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
We have a High Priest in heaven. Pause for a moment and take that in. Jesus, God who became a man, is seated at the right hand of the Father as my representative. I can’t think of better news, He died for me and lives before the Father as my heavenly mediator. Here is how Paul describes this in Romans 8:33,34 – “Who will bring charges against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, but rather, was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.”
John also spoke about our heavenly Helper. John used the word “Paracletos” in referring to Jesus in His priestly ministry. If we sin, He is the One we confess our sin to. Here is how John says it. 1John 2:1,2 – “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
The intercessory ministry of Jesus effects me in my everyday life. I believe Jesus is praying for me in heaven, the Holy Spirit is praying for me on earth through my prayers, and the result is that I am strengthened and changed. Here is how Paul says it in Hebrews 7:25 – “Therefore He is also able to save forever those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them”.
Christ has become the object of our faith and our affections. Looking to Him in His heavenly ministry is the vey strength of my life. This is where I find revelation, hope, strength, healing, and freedom. Paul describes this in Colossians 3:1,2 – “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth”.
So consider Jesus, think about Him, ponder the importance of His heavenly ministry. As we turn our thoughts and our affection toward Him we will experience the fruit of His ministry in heaven, the mighty Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
