SEATED IN HEAVEN

Eph.2:5,6 – even when we were dead in our wrongdoings, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

This passage coincides with the message of the book of Hebrews, access to a new and living way behind the veil. Christ died for us, was raised from the dead for us, ascended into heaven for us, and took His place at the Father’s right hand for us. His whole purpose for becoming a man was to bring us into heavenly places. This is not talking about what happens when we die, it is describing a new kind of life made available for us now. Her is how the Life in the Spirit Commentary describes this passage.

“This is not mere mysticism. Temporally, indeed, we live on earth so long as we remain in this body; but, in Christ Jesus we are seated with Christ where he is. This language about the spiritual realm testifies to a living experience, that Christ has given us on the one hand a new life (with a sensitive awareness of the reality of God, and a love for him and for his people) and on the other a new victory (with evil increasingly under our feet). We were dead, but now we have been made alive in Christ; we were under the dark domain of Satan’s rule, but now we have been raised with Christ in triumph over sin and death; we were slaves in captivity, but now we have been enthroned with Christ in the heavenlies. In Christ the future inheritance has already begun in the present as a glorious reality and assurance, made possible by the indwelling Holy Spirit.”

What Jesus did for us at the cross was much more than just forgiving us of our sins, He brought us out of the world of the living dead and brought us into a spiritual life of freedom from the snares and cares of this world. Our sinfulness was blocking us from seeing that this world even existed. When our sins were washed away not only could we see this new life, we found ourselves being drawn into it. So now, just as Christ is seated in heavenly places so am I. I have continual access by the Spirit into this brand new world. This is the why Jesus became a man, to bring us into this heavenly experience.

  1. Has anything changed in 1000’s of years, no. When torment and fear is tolerated above changes that cost in the short term, the world say’s leave things as they are and leave us alone. We can’t help but display our changes, the lights are on.
