Heb.8:1 – Now the main point of what we have to say is this: we have such a High Priest, [the Christ] who is seated [in the place of honor] at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty (God) in heaven,
One of the funniest statements I have heard said about Christians is this “He is so heavenly minded he is no earthly good”. This is a cute statement but it is obviously inaccurate. I am sure somebody said that about the carpenter from Nazareth, if they did they were wrong. Certainly no one thought about heaven as much as Jesus who had been there with His Father from eternity. If anyone was earthly good it had to be Jesus. He turned water into wine (another argument for another day), opened blind eyes, caused the lame to walk, fed the hungry, cleansed lepers, and even raised people from the dead. Today the ministry of Jesus continues as our heavenly priest-king. Looking to Him today brings us into the heavenly state. Drawing near to Him brings us into kingdom awareness. Here is how Andre Murray describes this.
“We have said before that the great characteristic of our Priest-King, of His salvation and His life, is its heavenliness. It will reward the reader each time the thought occurs, to go over the passages we have marked, and seek to come fully under the power of the thought. Jesus is passed through the heavens, made higher than the heavens, seated on the throne in the heavens, in order that He might open the kingdom of heaven to us. Heaven, we have said before, is not only a place, but a state of life; the kingdom of heaven can come to us here on earth in power, and be set up within our hearts. The will of God can be done on earth as in heaven. All Jesus is, is heavenly; all the gifts He bestows, all the work He does, all the life He breathes, all the power He exercises is exclusively heavenly.”
Down here we have drama at the gas pump, horror and panic attacks watching the news, and fits of anger and depression if we listen to the politics. I think I will set my mind and my heart on Jesus who is seated at the right hand of God praying for me. This brings me into a whole new state of life.
