Heb.10:5-7 – Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says,
“YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED SACRIFICE AND OFFERING,
BUT YOU HAVE PREPARED A BODY FOR ME;
YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN PLEASURE IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERINGS FOR SIN.
“THEN I SAID, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME
(IT IS WRITTEN OF ME IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK)
TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.’”

This brings us to the very heart of redemption. We hear the words of this Psalm resonating in the life of Jesus and culminating at Gethsemane. Jesus prayed His prayer in the shadow of the cross. He was yielding up His will as a man. This is where the root of our problem rested as a fallen man. I wanted to do His will by somehow I would fail and say no. This is the Messiah making a conscience decision as a man to pick up His cross. He told us again and again to pick up our cross and follow Him. We wanted to, the disciples wanted to but could never follow through. Through the power of redemption and this new life it purchased for us we can join with Christ and say the will of God is my ultimate pleasure. This is the power and fruit of redemption. Here is how Murray describes this passage.

“”He humbled Himself, and became obedient—therefore God hath highly exalted Him.” Because God is the all-perfect fountain of life and goodness and blessing, there can be no life or goodness or blessing but in His will. The whole evil and ruin of sin is that man turned from God’s will to do his own. The redemption of Christ had no reason, no object, and no possibility of success, except in restoring man to do God’s will. It was for this Jesus died. He gave up His own will; He gave His life, rather than do His own will. It was this that gave value to His bearing our sins, with their curse and consequences, to His tasting death for every man. It was this that gave such infinite worth to His blood.”

We have been more than forgiven, we have been changed. Our will has been included in redemption and we too can say yes to the cross of Christ. This is the way into this new and living way, this is the way of the cross, this is the new way to live our lives.
