Rev.19:7,8 – Let’s rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has prepared herself.” It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
This verse has often grabbed my attention. At first glance it doesn’t seem quite right, “the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints”. Upon further examination, it is quite a revelation. The bride of Christ at her coronation and glorification is arrayed in splendor, she is clothed with Christ. Christ has revealed Himself in His saints through His testimony or in their acts of faith enabled by the grace and power of God. Think about the glory of Christ displayed in various members of His church. Mary mirrored Christ as she bathed His feet in her tears and spikenard applied by her beautiful hair. She adored the Lord with the very love she had received from Him. Then there was Steven, the first martyr for Christ. The beauty of the Lord was shining in brilliance through Steven’s face as he died. What was his dying prayer? “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” He was echoing the prayers of Jesus, “Father, forgive them, they don’t know what they are doing”. Then, who could ever forget the love and courage of Peter as he dared cross the racial lines with the gospel. He preached Christ to the dreaded Romans at a Roman officer’s home. This is the glory of Christ seen in this Jewish fisherman for all people. I also think of the evangelist Phillip as he preached Christ to the African treasurer from Ethiopia. Today, Africa is radiating with the glory of Christ, the harvest of this seed sown by the deacon from the Jerusalem church. Also seen in this beautiful bride is the business woman, Lydia, from Philippi. She saw the glory of Christ in the tent-maker from Tarsus. She embraced this mysterious man and his message and began to support him with her business profits. Her generosity is like a shining light reflecting from Christ Himself.
Christ’s beauty is set on display in and through HIs bride. Even in her veiled state before the Lord’s return the glory of the Lord radiates from His bride. Today we are the light of the world. Let your light shine in the darkness of this world so all can behold Him.
