Ro.8:2,27 – Now in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Knowing and praying the will of God is closely associated with the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Of course there are many factors involved in discovering the will of God. The scripture is one of the most important factors, God’s will is revealed in His word. Other ingredients are walking in a way that is pleasing to God, you know, not walking in sin. Our relationship with the local church also plays a big role. Pastors are called shepherds for a reason. Then there comes the matter of praying in the Spirit. In today’s verse Paul says we don’t know how or what to pray for. When we pray in the Spirit the Holy Spirit begins to pray according to the will of God using our own prayers. Inevitably what happens next is these Spirit prayers seep into our mind. We begin to glimpse the will of God in certain situations and then pray and act accordingly. Here is how Arthur Wallis describes this.

“How then are we to reconcile these two facts—we are ignorant of the will of God, and yet, in order to receive, are required to pray according to it? Here is a weakness serious enough to render all our praying ineffectual. But the apostle points us to this wonderful “fact that Someone has been sent to help us who has a perfect knowledge of the will of God. “The Spirit helps us in our weakness . . . the Spirit Himself intercedes for us . . . the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

I LOVE THIS, THIS MAKES PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT PRODUCTIVE AND ENJOYABLE. I DRAW NEAR TO HIM, MAGNIFY HIM IN OTHER TONGUES, AND SLIP OVER INTO SUPPLICATION AND INTERCESSION. The Holy Spirit is truly our Advocate, Intercessor, and Helper.

So what kind of challenges are you facing today? Maybe you don’t know what to do or how to pray. Perfect!! Pray in the Spirit and watch the Lord take over.

  1. The Holy Spirit is my Lawyer. He brings my case before the throne of God. Because I don’t know how to ask but my Lawyer know me and represents me before God with eloquent word which I can not say.
Yes my lawyer knows me well because I have spent many hours with Him. I have shared my life and deepest secrets with him. He told me he will never leave me or forsake me. What a Lawyer!
