WATCH

Matt.24:22-24 – Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Good things happen often when least expected. I was recently playing golf and really was not too focused on the game when something you wait for often for a lifetime suddenly happened, the rare and unexpected hole in one. The ball took one hop on the green and went straight into the hole, it was quite an unexpected surprise. For a Christian the return of Christ is our life long hope and expectation. If we are honest, far too often we become distracted and lose our focus on the Lord’s return. In today’s passage Jesus gave us a warning: watch, stay awake and alert, His coming will be sudden and unexpected. Here are two comments from the Spirit Filled Life Bible; one on His sudden and appearance and the other on being watchful.

“In a time of indifference and carelessness the Lord will appear with startling suddenness. Some will be taken to meet Him, while others will be left. The thought of that event urges watchfulness and preparedness upon us.

“The Greek word grēgoreō means either literally to be or keep awake or figuratively to be watchful or be alert. No New Testament usage appears to be entirely without some sense of being watchful, on guard, or vigilant. The word came to be used more or less absolutely as a Christian virtue (1 Cor. 16:13) and to designate watchful preparedness for the Lord’s return (Rev. 16:15; see also Col. 4:2). In 1 Thessalonians 5:10 it takes on the metaphorical meaning of being alive. The word is also used in Matthew 26:41.”

It doesn’t take much of a discerning eye to realize we are at the end of the age and His coming is upon us. Knowledge has increased and will have to be stopped to keep us from self destruction in our fallen condition, the moral climate is in utter decay (think Sodom before the fire fell), Humans can no longer tell between right and wrong or even male and female. Even creation itself is groaning in anticipation of the coming of the Lord. I think its time to watch, the sky will soon be rolled back like a scroll and the Lord will suddenly appear. WATCH!!!
