Lk.1:30 – And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Have you ever considered the outrageous miracle that happened to Mary, the mother of Jesus? There are some crazy miracles in the Bible like Abraham and Sarah at 99 and 90 having a baby. Then there is Jonah, being swallowed and spit up by a fish after three days. of course we can’t forget Noah with the ark, the flood, and the migration of the animals. But the there is something of a whole different category when we come to Mary, a mother having a baby without the involvement of a human Father. Really? How could this be possible? But it happened, Mary conceived a child by the Holy Spirit before she was married. This has to be the greatest of all the stories and miracles that surrounded the life of Jesus. Here is how Matthew Henry described it.

“She would conceive by the power of the Holy Spirit. A divine power would undertake it, the power of the Holy Spirit himself. She must ask no questions about how it would be performed, because the Holy Spirit, as the power of the Highest, would overshadow her. The formation of every baby in the womb and the entrance of the spirit of life into it is a mystery of nature. We were made in secret (Ps 139:15 – 16). Much more was the formation of the child Jesus a mystery. The child she would conceive would be a holy thing and must therefore not be conceived by ordinary generation. He is spoken of emphatically, as That Holy Thing, One such as has never been, and he would be called the Son of God. His human nature must be produced in a way that befitted a human nature that was to be united with a divine nature.”

So was Mary a prototype of what all of us would become? Is that what happened to me, the Holy Spirit planted Jesus in my inner man to give me new birth? That is it exactly, we were born again when the Spirit of Jesus entered into us. From that moment Christ began to be formed in us, we became carriers of Christ in this crazy world. So now everywhere we go we have Christ inside of us, this seems just to good to be true but it absolutely is.

  1. Luke notes this interaction about Jesus’s mother:
“As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice to call out, “How Blessed is the mother that gave birth to You, and nursed you from her breasts!” But He said, “FAR MORE BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HEAR THE WORD OF GOD AND OBEY IT!” Luke 11:27‭-‬28 CJB
