SHAKE THE NATIONS

Haggai 2:6-8 – For thus says the LORD of hosts: Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts. ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the LORD of hosts.

All creation seems to be in an increasing state of expectancy. In Romans 8 Paul called it joyful anticipation. He also says this expectancy is compatible to a pregnant woman waiting for the birth of her child. There is tension in the whole ordeal, joyful expectancy tempered with suffering and trial. The mom knows that a child is coming and this suffering will soon be over, that’s how she deals with it. As Christians, we are also involved in this joyful anticipation cloaked in suffering and tumult. We are groaning together with creation in anticipation of what’s next, the revealing of Christ in His glory and the unveiling of the beauty of His sons and daughters. Haggai the prophet recognized the tension and boldly declared that God would come among us, His birth and His second coming will shake the fabric of human culture. Here is a poem I wrote called SHAKE THE NATIONS.

SHAKE THE NATIONS

ONCE MORE – SAID THE PROPHET

WILL I SHAKE THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH

ALL OF GOD’S CREATION

IS SHAKEN BY HIS BIRTH

THE UNVEILING OF HIS WORD

IN THIS UNEXPECTED PLAN

NO ONE COULD CONCEIVE

THAT GOD WOULD BECOME A MAN

FROM THE COBBLER

TO THE BAKER

FROM THE PAUPER TO THE KING

ALL CREATION IS EFFECTED

EVEN ANGELS HAVE TO SING

TO THE PRIESTS AND THE RULERS

TO THE COMMON ‘EVERYMAN’

HE SHAKES EVERY KINGDOM

BECAUSE GOD BECAME A MAN

ONCE MORE – SAID THE PROPHET

WILL I SHAKE THE HEAVENS, EARTH, AND SEA

MY CALL GOES TO THE NATIONS

LET THE HARVEST COME TO ME

So His first coming literally stopped history in its tracks. Civilization is still centered on His birth (B.C. And A.D.). His Second Coming will be even more upending because this time He doesn’t come cloaked in humility but clothed in glory. As the day approaches He is shaking the nations, everything that can be shaken will be shaken. What will be the result? His harvest will come in, He will return, and His people will be revealed in glory.
