Matt.2:1,2 – Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
Have you ever been on a fool’s errand? If you ask some people that’s all my life has been, wasting my resources on something that has no value. That’s the way secular academics actually view Jonathan Edwards. They recognize the genius and the power of his words but they say something like “what a shame he wasted his energy and intellectual power on ancient pipe dreams that have no relevance”. That’s the word we have to understand, relevance. Relevance means important to the matters at hand. So what the natural man really believes is that God’s kingdom is irrelevant to this world and using our time, talent, and finance on God’s kingdom is a waste of time. That brings us to today’s verses and to the wise men. To many these men were wasting years at a great expense on chasing a “fool’s errand”. Have you been accused of anything like this? If you are following Christ, especially if you are talking about calling and ministry, you will definitely be accused of this fool’s errand thing. How would I know? This has been my life story, chasing heavenly dreams and not focusing on earthly kingdoms. Here is a Christmas poem I wrote this year about the wise men from the East. Hope you Enjoy !!
THEY SAID IT WAS AN ERRAND FOR FOOLS
IN OUR HEARTS WE KNEW IT WAS TRUE
NO WISE MAN WOULD FALL FOR THIS SORT OF NEWS
BUT TRAVELING SO FAR WE FOLLOWED THE STAR
COULD IT BE OUR PLAN WAS CONFUSED?
WE WERE HUNGRY FOR SOMETHING BRAND NEW
THE DESIRE OF THE AGES
WE HAD FOUND IN THE PAGES
THIS WAS SOMETHING WE JUST HAD TO DO.
THE STORY HAD PAST THROUGH THE YEARS
THE PROMISE WOULD TEMPER OUR FEARS
THE SAVIOR WOULD COME
HIS WILL WOULD BE DONE
GIVING BIRTH TO HIS KINGDOM VOLUNTEERS
OVER FIELDS AND MOUNTAINS
THROUGH DESERTS AND FOUNTAINS
TO THE CITY OF DAVID WE CAME
THE SAVIOR WAS BORN
ON A BRIGHT WINTER’S MORN
FOR US IT WAS GOD’S BRAND NEW DAY
