Jn.20:17,18 – but go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene *came and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He had said these things to her.

The Lord has a way of picking the least likely to do what no one else could ever do. One of these least likely was falling back into her pit of depression outside the garden tomb of Jesus. This was Mary Magdalene who felt herself slipping back into the dark regions of her past. Why was she the least likely? Mary had lived a life of addictive behavior, using others and being used to just get by. She had been filled with darkness, when Jesus first found Mary she was filled with demonic power. He set her free with a word but that seemed like so long ago, now she was battling demons in her brain as she wept outside of the tomb of Jesus.

In a moment her sorrow was chased away once again, Jesus was standing in the garden calling Mary’s name. Not only was He alive He was calling for her. Not only was she accepted by His love, He had a job for her to do. “Go tell my brothers. Tell them I am alive”. This was too good to be true, not only was she loved, Jesus was alive and she was the first to see Him.

This was historic. Mary Magdalene, the least likely, was chosen to declare that first resurrection message. She didn’t care if no one believed her, she had seen Him for herself. He was alive and she would tell everyone what she had seen and heard.

All of us know unlikely candidates that we have basically written off. Now we would never admit it but still, do we really think those hard cases we have prayed for for years will actually come to Jesus? The Lord has His eye specifically on those unlikely ones, He loves to show Himself through people you never would pick in a million years. I have a feeling we are moving into one of those kinds of seasons as we begin this new year. I predict this year we will see some amazing and even shocking conversions. Like Mary who was trapped in a life of destructive and even suicidal behavior, the Lord found His vessel to proclaim His resurrection message. He is saving those least likely candidates for times like these, maybe someone on your least likely list is about to have a life change.
